Digital Circuit Designer is possibly one of my best software creations till date,
given that I created it in 2000 and I still find myself playing with it occationally with
an awed admiration.
My fascination with digital circuits traces back to 1995, when I was introduced to
digital electronics in our second semister curriculum. It was amazing to see logic
being presented so tangibly. The fascination never really ended. Four years later in 2000,
it came back again and this time I had all the means to handle it. I had a desktop all to
myself, enough free time as a fresher in IBM, my ever growing love for Java. All that
was missing was a structured guidance on digital electronics. So, off I went and
bought a book on Digital Electronics by Morris Mano. Couple of months of coding, testing,
fixing and off came one of the most satisfying creations till date.
You can use DCD to simulate digital circuits using basic gates like AND, OR, NOT, NAND,
Flip Flops (JK, SR, T) and many pre-built integrated circuits. This program comes
with many pre-built demostration circuits like seven segment displays, RAM chip
simulations, digital clock circuits etc.
You can click on the images (<-) for screenshots of DCD in action. I have also
included the source code along with the installation archive for
download. You can also browse through some demonstration of the capabilities
of DCD by following the demostration links below.
