Hi Sandeep,

I just saw your work on Pluto, truly amazing !!! .

The best part was the cost effective nature of fetching data through screens scraping. This definitely provides an edge investment wise over normal integration options like web services.

Infact i also came across screen scraping while working at mFoundry account in Cognizant Pune. This assignment required customer online account data to be fetched from Bank of America website by logging through the site programatically using HttpClient API The most interesting part of this was that Bank of America themselves approved of this way of data fetching.

Screen scraping here was done on the WAP site of Bank of America.Since WAP version of websites are well formed so parsing becomes a lot easier. Xquery and Xpath can definitely be useful in such scenarios.

When HTML are badly formed, parsing becomes difficult, then regular expressions can be effectively used to fetch data.

This screen scraping exercise inspired me to scrape Google and Wamu’s bank site.

With more ways to improve on the quality of screen scrapes , it can definitely be an effective integration option.

Pluto also reminds me of the far distant planet in our solar system that has had the dubious status of being a planet or not - tool is going to be very promising to all of those who believe or tend to believe that there must be a hidden pattern that is sitting out there to be discovered by someone that will make the stock markets predictable to a great degree if not to Nth precision levels.

I am looking forward for Pluto to evolve as we go through the journey of Capital Markets and learn the tricks of equities trading as well as playing with the derivatives and Pluto will definitely be the sole dependable tool that we will have given that logic is the only way we can gamble and WIN.

Good stuff, you should get on to your home page more often though.
